Prizehog are a band from Oregon and California that plays a very heavy and melodic form of psychedelic sludge metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Re-Unvent The Whool" which will be relased by Eolian Empire.
The album starts out with a dark and psychedelic sound along with melodic chanting and then the music goes into a heavier direction which also leads up to sludge style screams as well as a small amount of blast beats and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and after awhile guitar leads are also added into the recording.
When the album goes into other songs they bring in a great amount of psychedelic elements while also remaining heavy and dark all at the same time and unlike most sludge bands they actually use more clean and melodic sounding singing while also having its aggressive moments at times and on one of the songs they bring in elements of blues rock and they also use synths in certain sections of the recording.
With this album Prizehog bring a very different sound to the sludge genre by using more melodic vocals and they also mix a great amount of psychedelic parts with a good amount of heaviness and they have a very original sound to them.
Song lyrics cover dark themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Prizehog are a very great heavy and melodic sounding psychedelic sludge metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Paradiggim" "Shed" and "Gnumskull, The Ruler". 8 out of 10.
