Magna Vice are a band from Finland that plays a very progressive form of metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Serpent Of Wisdom" which was released by Inverse Records.
The album starts out with sound effects along with synths before going into a heavier metal/rock direction along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as elements of prog which also leads up to melodic vocals and guitar solos kicking in w hich are heavily influenced by 80's metal and hard rock.
As the album continues psychedelic sound s are mixed in with their hard rock and metal sound which also brings up influences of Led Zeppelin and Rush as well as bringing in spoken word parts and acoustic guitars on other songs and some of the other tracks the vocals have a power metal feeling to them.
With this album Magna Vice show that they have a wide range of musical tastes and the bring them into the recording and you can hear the heaviness of more recent metal while the sound seems to be more in tune with early 80's traditional metal and 70's style classic/progressive rock and they also can play their instruments very well and have a good ear of musicians.
Song lyrics are a concept album based on a war veteran named Ed Diamond who suffers from hallucinations, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Magna Vice are a very great sounding progressive metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Temple Of Sin" "Gods of War" and "Real Delusions". 8 out of 10.
