Verdun/The Cosmic Escape Of Admiral Masuka/Throatruiner Records/2012 CD Review

Verdun  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  heavy  form  of  sludge/doom  metal  mixed  with  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "The  Cosmic  Escape  Of  Admiral  Masuka"  which  was  released  by  Throatruiner  Records.

Drums  are  all  slow  playing  with  no  fast  drums  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  are  all  slow,  dark  and  heavy  riffs  that  combine  sludge,  doom  metal  and  hardcore  together to  create a  sound  of  their  own  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  at  times,  while  the  lead  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  are  very  psychedelic  sounding  doom  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals a re  mostly  sludge/doom  metal  style  screams  with  some  clean  singing  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  hardcore  style  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  dark,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Verdun  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  sludge,  doom  metal  and  hardcore  and if  you  are  a  fan  of  this   musical  genre,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Sons  Of  The  Atom".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
