Celtic Frost where a band from Switzerland that where a big part of the first wave of black metal with a musical style on this recording that combined first wave black metal with some doom and thrash metal influences and this is a review of their classic 1985 album "Morbid Tales" which was released by Noise Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with not much in the way of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars, as for the sound effects which are only utilized briefly they bring a very dark and avant garde sound to the music.
Rhythm guitars are all heavy raw and primitive sounding first wave black metal riffs that also utilized a good amount of doom, thrash and punk influences to create a sound of their own with the riffing being very catchy, while the lead guitars are very raw and primitive sounding black/thrash metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are mostly first wave black metal growls and grunts which where an inspiration on early death metal as well as a brief use of spoken word female parts and demonic chanting, while the lyrics cover darkness and occult themes, as for the production it has a very heavy , raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Celtic Frost and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Into The Crypts Of Ray" "Morbid Tales" "Circle Of The Tyrants" and "Suicidal Winds". RECOMMENDED BUY.
