Poison Idea are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays hardcore punk with a thrash edge and this is a review of their 2012 compilation album "The Fatal Erection Years (Pick Your King)" which was released by Southern Lord Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with not much in the way of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast hardcore punk riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding with some of the heaviness of thrash being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars when t hey are utilized are hardcore punk sounding guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are all hardcore punk style shouts and singing, while the lyrics cover hateful and everyday themes, as for the production it has a very raw and primitive sound with some of the songs being recorded live on the compilation while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording..
In my opinion Poison Idea where a very great sounding hardcore punk band with a thrash edge and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "It's An Action" "Underage" "Give It Up" and "Legalize Freedom". RECOMMENDED BUY.
