Coroner/Mental Vortex/Noise Records/1991 CD Review

Coroner  where  a  band  from  Switzerland  that  played  a  very  technical  form  of  thrash  bordering  on  early  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1991  album  "Mental  Vortex"  which  was  released  by  Noise  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow, mid  paced  to  fast  technical  thrash  riffs  which  have  some  early  death  metal  influences  and  from  you  can  hear  in  the  riffing  is  the  origins  of  technical  death  metal  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  and  technical  sounding  thrash  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  all  early  80's  death/thrash  screams  and  growls  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  in  addition t here  is  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  being  utilized  on  the  last  song,  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  and  occult  themes,  as  for  the  production  it h as  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  for  the  time  it  was  released  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Coroner  where  a  very  great  sounding  technical  thrash/death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sirens"  "Metamorphosis"  and  "I  Want  You  (She's  So  Heavy)"  which  is  a  Beatles  cover.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
