The Great Discord are a band from Sweden that plays a musical style they describe as being progressive death pop and this is a review of their 2017 album "The Rabbit Hole" which will be released in October by The Sign Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths and melodic female vocals start off the album and after the intro clean playing is added onto the recording along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful which also leads up to a heavier direction which also uses a great amount of prog elements.
Vocals are mostly clean singing with a touch of power metal while prog rock style keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the heavier sections of the songs bringing in elements of djent and aggressive screams can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and clean playing also makes a return on some of the later tracks.
The riffs also bring in a great amount of melody while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the tracks also adding in a symphonic edge.
The Great Discord plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in progressive metal while also adding in the heaviness of djent and a touch of death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album adding an alternate story to Lewis Carrol's Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole.
In my opinion The Great Discord are a very great sounding progressive death pop band and if you are looking for something that is very different, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Noire" "Tell Tale Heart" "Neon Draming" and "Persona". 8 out of 10.
