King Zog are a band from Australia that plays a mixture of sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their self titled and self released 2017 album.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some melodic riffing a few seconds later which also leads up to a heavier doom metal direction along with the vocals also giving the songs more of a 70's metal vibe while the solos and leads also stick to a very retro musical style.
While a lot of the influences are from the past the music still sounds very modern along with some psychedelic elements also being added into certain sections of the recording and the riffing also mixes in the heaviness of sludge and a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length, all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the songs stick to a very slow musical direction.
King Zog plays a musical style that takes a traditional form of doom metal and mixes it with the heaviness of sludge to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion King Zog are a very great sounding mixture of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lost At Sea" "Hexagram" "Bitter Wisdom" and "Season In Hell". 8 out of 10.
