The Marigold Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Hi guys, we're are very busy to planning live gigs for the next season and we are making shipment (of cds) for every label who helped us to realise this album (hyphen records, riff records, icore prod.)

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

We play "free-rock". We feel free for every song that we record.  I can tell you that the last album is heavy than "tajga" (DeAmbula Rec, 2009), where we used  more synths and ethereal sounds.

3.What are some of the themes and images the band brings out with their musical sound?

Yes, for Kanaval album, we worked on tribal imaginary, the 'roots' of human race, the rage of this historical period. Usually we work with image in our heads and we try to explain in music. Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business) made a great work mixing this record, he played also great parts of synth and mandolin..the sound is fantastic.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'The marigold'?
We formed the band in 1998, I was 16 years old...I remember a sense of solitude (typical of teenagers . . . :) )... we were young and call a band with a name of a flower, I thought that it were strange, cool, intellectual... I think hehe.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We played great gigs in France (Paris and Nancy), but also in Italy.
On stage we are wild (a bit) and at the same time we create intense moments. I feel these sensations on stage.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yep, we're working on live gigs in Italy, Belgium & Germany. I hope to realise it.

7.The new album was released on DeAmbula Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

DeAmbula Records (www.dembularecords.com) is our small label, based in Italy.
Usually we work on projects that excite us, with original sounds and forms for our taste. We work with experimental/avantgarde music (Oslo Tapes, Ulan Bator) or experimental folk (Herself, Was, Before Cars). We are a family-label, and the passion is important to realise our productions.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your new album by fans of underground music?
In every corner of this world there are niches of people interested to underground music of every genre, thats the force of the underground music. It's like a faith. With this so I want tell you the also us have persons (not thousand... :) ) in every country that do their part to sustain our band.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
I don't know, we're a boat without a route.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Oh too much, from Melvins to Swans, from My Bloody Valentine to Nirvana, or the french band Ulan Bator - his leader Amaury Cambuzat produced the first two albums of the band (erotomania, 2007 and tajga, 2009).
Now I'm listening a lot of avantgarde music, like the norwegian jazz scene.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Read with the red italian wine beside the fire.
