Savage Wizdom are a band from New Mexico that plays an old school form of power metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "A New Beginning".
Clock noises start off the album along with some bells before adding in some soft and clean guitars as well as some synths and after the intro the music goes into more of a heavier power metal direction along with some melodic vocals and screams and the music sounds like it could off been easily recorded and released during the 80's.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and you can also hear a great amount of melody in the songs in both of the riffs and solos which also add more of an old school metal feeling to the album and one of the tracks has Blaze Bailey(Iron Maiden, Wolfsbane) doing quest vocals.
As the album progresses the band starts bringing in more of a modern day heaviness to their old school power metal style along with a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses clean playing makes their return in certain sections of the recording.
Savage Wizdom plays a style of power metal that is very melodic, heavy and epic sounding while also having a decent amount of heaviness that gives their music more of a modern feeling, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Savage Wizdom are a very great sounding power metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A New Beginning" "The Barbarian" "Chase the Dragon" and "Point Of No Return". 8 out of 10.
