Arcane are a band from Australia that plays a mixture of progressive rock and heavy metal and this is a review of t heir double album "Known/Learned" which will be released in 2015 by Sensory Records.
A very hard, heavy and melodic old school progressive metal sound starts off the album along with some solos and leads a few seconds later as well as a good amount of synths both of which are a huge part of the album and songs and after a minute clean singing vocals are added into the music and the band also brings in a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts.
You can hear a good amount of the modern prog metal sound in the bands musical style along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and on some of the tracks acoustic and classical guitars are added into certain sections of the recording and there are also a few power ballads as the album progresses.
At times blast beats can be heard in certain sections of some of the songs while the music remains true to a prog metal sound and some of the tracks also bring in more of a traditional progressive rock style and the second side of the album goes for more of an acoustic folk rock musical direction while also still bringing in a few long and epic tracks and the songs also use keyboards which also gives the music more of a tragic feeling and at times the songs also bring in a small amount of electric guitars which also gives the songs more of a progressive rock feeling.
Arcane show a great amount of diversity with their music along with a great amount of talent and skill and the album is divided into 2 parts, the first side being in a modern prog metal direction and the other side is more in the acoustic folk rock direction that also brings in a touch of modern day mainstream rock at times, the production sound s very professional while the lyrics are a concept based upon the lives of a father and daughter, their loss, their love and their journey.
In my opinion Arcane are a very great sounding mixture of progressive rock and metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unturning" "Holding Atropos" "Little Burden" and "Nightingale's Weave". 8 out of 10.
