Spotlights are a band from New York that plays a mixture of doomgaze and post metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Demonstration" which was released by Crowquill Records.
Drum beats and ambient style synths along with soundscapes start off the album and after a couple of minutes the music goes into more of a harder and melodic musical direction where you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording while also mixing in elements of electronic music.
Vocals are all done in a clean singing style while shoegaze elements can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with some female vocals and the riffs also bring in the heaviness of doom metal and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and they also bring in a couple of instrumental tracks, some of the songs are long and epic in length while the whole album sticks to a very slow musical style from beginning to ending of the recording.
Spotlights plays a musical style that takes post rock and shoegaze and mixes it in with the heaviness of doom metal to create a style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and real life themes.
In my opinion Spotlights are a very great sounding mixture of doomgaze and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cult Classic" and "French Exit". 8 out of 10.
