Michael Schenker is a very legendary guitar player from Germany who was one of the original guitar players for the Scorpions and has done plenty of solos albums over the years as well as working with his other band's UFO and MSG with a more hard rock approach to metal and with this album he has teamed with a bunch of well known musicians and came out with a new album which is all covers and this is a review of his 2014 album " Blood On The Sun" which was released by Collectors Dream Records.
A very melodic hard rock sound starts off the album along with some leads and melodic vocals and the music also has a more 80's commercial approach to metal while staying a few notches away from being hair metal and after awhile a mixture of clean and hard parts are added onto the recording.
The guitar solos and leads are the strongest point of the recording and you can tell this guitar player influenced all of the metal and hard rock guitarists of the 80's and on some of the later tracks acoustic guitars, keyboards and orchestras are added . while the main focus is still on the harder tracks and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with a blues rock feeling at times and each track has a different singer while the last 2 songs are all instrumental..
Michael Schenker creates a very interesting sound with this recording with some Black, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Nazareth among plenty other and you have well known musicians such as Gary Barden, Robin MeAuley, Jeff Scott Soto, Tom Ripper Owens, Sebastian Bach, Joe Lynn Turner, Leslie West, Tommy Shaw, Mark Slaughter, Paul Di' Anno and Jeff Pilson.
In my opinion this is a very decent sounding recording from Michael Schenker and if you are a fan of this artist, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Save Yourself" "Finding My Way" "Money" and "Hair Of the Dog". 8 out of 10
