Amaze Knight interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We're a band of 5 members who believe strongly on what they do. We have a deep passion for music and we'll do all we can to realise this wonderful dream. The band is: (Christian: guitars), Michele (drums), Fabrizio (vocals), Davide (keys) e Nicolò (bass guitar).

2.How would you describe your musical sound?

Our sound is evolving more and more. In the first album “The Key”, you've listened to the first part of our influences and what we would like to be by a musical point of view. However, that is our first album and we had not a lot of experience, so it can not be regarded as the definitive portrait of the sound of the band. We are pleased with this first album but we know we can do much more. Playing together we are realizing that the sound is changing into something more personal. Of course we will always have moments of great impact interspersed with other more melodic and intimate, but we will do it with the experience gained during the course of these years. We do not like categorize music, but I can tell you that what unites us is a passion for all progressive music from the beginning up to the present. I should point out that there is an ocean of music we listen to, ranging from metal to classical and fusion.

3.The new recording was a concept album, can you tell us a little bit more about your song lyrics?

"The Key" tells the story of a person who is imprisoned in his own mind. The vision of the world around him is dark and seemingly no way out. With the succession of songs, you begin to glimpse a kind of light that is the key that frees him from this state of mind which isolates it from everything and everyone. It 's definitely a sad story but towards the end of the disc (Liberation) there is a message of hope and liberation from this negativity.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Amaze Knight'?

The group's name is a fusion of two words that we liked both audibly and visually .... and we decided to merge them together. This name had our sense and our value, but we do not want to reveal it. We would like that fans will be the one who fantasize about its meaning.
.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Our best experience was during our first concert at the Rock 'n' Roll Arena.. a wonderful stage and below there were more than 500 people listening to our music. The impact of the sound and the reaction of the public were incredible. There were lots of kids who cheered and applauded us .... and it was our first show! Once down by that stage we realized that this was seriously our life: living of an exchange of emotions between us and the audience, living of Music and continue on this road, a surely tough road, full of difficulties. After that experience, everything has changed and we decided to go all out to continue to live with those feelings.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have several plans in mind. We have a lot of desire to do a tour possibly abroad, as we have many fans abroad and we thank them very much. As surely as you know, the beginning is not easy. There is a considerable economic effort and we would like to do so with peace of mind, considering the most interesting and above all honest: where there is a desire to cooperate and not just ask a lot of money to emerging groups that already have their own economic problems.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Yes, we're seriously looking for an agency / label who wants to work with the band and fund a project in which it was invested heavily in human and economic. We are happy to do so because we believe strongly in what we do, but it is also true that an agency could facilitate many serious things that a band alone could not manage. We have received some proposals but seemed quite inconclusive and certainly not clear in many places. So yes, if there are reputable agencies interested in us, contact us, so that together we can evaluate the proposals where there is a common gain and not just an economic loss of the band that never leads to the desired results.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of progressive rock and metal?

I must say that we have succeeded in uniting both fans of the 70s prog and the ones of modern prog. This fills us with joy because it is our intention: to make music without any preconceived notions and especially in freedom. We respect all music. we play what we have inside. We have never been in favor of the divisions among those who love a genre or anyone who loves another. Music is freedom of expression, is not a competition to see who knows more about, and we are happy to live this experience in this way. We respect all musical tastes and it would be a shame to get lost in useless discussions between people who like a certain genre. We play what we are and what we feel inside ... that's all.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We hope with all my heart that one day our band will be traveling around the world to play, maybe at the side of our musical idols .... our project started with these intentions, live music in every way. It will be a very difficult path, but we want to try.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Surely what unites us is more of a passion for all progressive music and beyond. To cite a few bands I can tell you names such as: King Crimson, Rush, Opeth, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd. These are the bands that unite us, but we are open to any kind of music, and now, as far as I'm concerned, I'm listening to a lot of the Music of Animals As Leaders. From guitarist that I am, I am fascinated by the great touch of Tosin Abasi, his style is so fresh and innovative, which combines technique and melody in an impressive manner ... this is a band that leaves me breathless.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

I'm a huge fan of Movies and videogames. These are two passions that I grow steadily and that among other things help me a lot to compose. In these two forms of art you can live very intense emotions that take you to other worlds and make you live in a story. The only substantial difference is that in a movie you have a passive role: you follow the story as it was created without modifying it. In a game it is you who can change the course of events based on your choices, and that fascinates me so much. Besides movies and video games also have wonderful soundtracks, played by real composers, so it is also connected with music that we create.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

In addition to the dutiful thanks to all our fans , to the reviewers and the webzine that we have interviewed , I would just leave my / our personal message. We sincerely hope that one day many people are willing to listen, not to be swayed by prejudice, to give an opportunity to many young bands who truly desire to play music. We feel that in recent years we are losing the value of this art that is so beautiful. Sometimes we hear of Music with superficiality, and this is a serious mistake. Music exists everywhere, try to get up in the morning and to no longer hear music ... what a world would it be? Imagine your life without it ... it would make no sense. We think it would be really the time to bring this beautiful art up, always higher and higher. Music has always united people, has always given strong emotions: do not let this wonderful art be marred by prejudices ... experience the emotion that music offers because they are priceless. We are trying to do it in our small. (And thanks to Edoardo Napoli for the translataion)
