This is a review of a 7 inch split between Pennsylvania's Bench Press and Puerto Rico's Martyr's Tongue which will be released in 2014 by get This Right Records and we will start off the review with Bench Press a band that plays a metal tinged form of hardcore.
A very slow, heavy and hardcore sound starts off their side of the split along with a small amount of melody being utilized and heavy distortion mixed with powerful bass lines and the vocals are all done in hateful shouts and screams and they bring this sound to both of the tracks they provide for the split and also add in elements of thrash metal on the second track.
Bench Press create a very heavy and old school form of hardcore with their mistake staying away from the poppy or post side of the genre and bringing back an old school heaviness and a professional sounding production along with lyrics that cover hateful themes.
In my opinion Bench Press are a very great sounding metal tinged hardcore band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Penance".
Next up is Martyr's Tongue a band that plays a very metallic form of hardcore with traces of harsh noise.
Harsh noise sounds and samples start off their side of the split and a minute later the music goes into a more heavy thrash/hardcore direction along with some blast beats which lead up to shouting vocals and powerful sounding bass lines along with a mixture of slow and fast parts and on the following track they bring in a small amount of more aggressive vocals. while also getting a lot more heavier and having a sound leaning closer to black metal while still being true to hardcore.
Martyr's Tongue bring a very interesting sound in with their music being heavily rooted in hardcore but also having harsh noise influences and elements from other forms of extreme metal, the production is very professional sounding and the lyrics cover world genocide.
In my opinion Martyr's Tongue are a very great sounding extreme hardcore band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Unholy Communion".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of hardcore. 8 out of 10.
