Fucked Up are a band from Canada that plays a mixture of hardcore punk, rock, metal and psychedelia and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Year of the Dragon" which was released by Tankcrimes.
The ep starts out with an 18 minute long song which uses clean playing at the beginning before going into a heavy direction and bringing in aggressive hardcore style vocals and you can hear some melody in the song as well as the clean parts making their return in certain sections as well as adding in guitar leads and as the song progresses you can hear psych sounds being added into the heaviness, when they add in more guitar leads you can also hear more traces of classic rock being utilized.
After the first track the band does a cover Of Cardboard Brains "I Wanna Be A Yank" which shows the band going for a more old school hardcore punk sound along with powerful bass lines as well as keeping around the aggressive vocals and they close the ep with a cover of The Ugly's "Disorder" which is in the more old school punk rock vein.
With this ep Fucked Up show off 2 different sides to t hem with their first track being very heavy and experimental while the cover tracks go back to their hardcore punk lyrics along with a professional sounding production and lyrics that cover Chinese Astrology.
In my opinion Fucked Up are a very great sounding mixture of hardcore punk, rock, metal and psychedelia and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The year Of the Dragon". 8 out of 10.
