Sleep are a band from Oaklang, California that plays stoner/doom metal and this is a review of their 1999 album "Dopesmoker" which was originally issued under the name "Jersusalem" but re-issued by Southern Lord Records under its original name.
Drums are all slow playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being presented on t his recording, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates throughout the reocrding.
Rhythm guitars are all slow stoner/doom metal riffs that combine the 70's sound with the 90's sound along with a great amount of heavy riffing, while the lead guitars are very 70's sounding stoner rock/metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are all clean singing stoner/doom metal vocals, while the lyrics cover dope smoking and religous themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, dark, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording with the main song being very long and epic in length and the last song being a live recording.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding album from Sleep and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Dopesmoker". RECOMMENDED BUy.
