Lightning Bolt are a band from Rhode Island that plays a very heavy and melodic style of noise rock and this is a review of their 2015 album "Fantasy Empire" which will be released in March by Thrill Jockey.
A very distorted yet melodic sound starts off the album before going into more of a heavier direction once the bass guitars start to kick in along with some post punk style clean singing a few seconds later and you can hear quite a bit of the early 90's noise rock sound in the bands musical style along with solos and leads that also utilize a decent amount of melody.
At times the music can be very avant garde and experimental in some parts but done with more of a structured style and you can also hear traces of electronic music in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses you can hear more punk rock influences being added onto the recording along with a few tracks that are long and epic in length and most of the song s stick to either a slow or mid paced direction while some of the tracks do have their fast moments.
Lightning Bolt plays a style of noise rock that is very heavily rooted in the early 90's while also being very melodic and heavy at the same time and they also bring in a touch of experimental and avant garde noise to create a sound of t heir own, the production sound s very old school yet professional at the same time while the lyrics cover real life themes.
In my opinion Lightning Bolt are a very great noise rock and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Metal East" "King Of My World" "Runaway Train" and "Dream Genie". 8 out of 10.
