Lykaion are a band from Italy that plays a mixture of gothic metal and hard/sleaze rock and this is a review of their 2015 album "Heavy Lullabies" which will be released in February by Inverse Records.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some atmospheric sounds and after a couple of minutes the music starts going for more of a hard and heavy sound as well as adding in symphonic style synths and the solos and leads that are utilized throughout all of the songs are very dark and melodic sounding.
Once the riffs kick in the music starts bringing in more of a gothic rock mixed in with a more hard rock style of heavy metal along with some clean singing vocals and all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the music also bring s in a good mixture of both clean and hard parts.
At times the vocals get more aggressive and bringing in a touch of groove metal along with some back up gang shouts and some of the songs also add in a touch of punk and glam rock while some of the guitar riffing also brings in the heaviness of thrash which is done with a more modern approach to the genre at times and as the album progresses the band starts bringing in a good mixture of both power ballads and hard tracks.
Lykaion plays a style that mixes melodic gothic rock and metal with the more modern style of metal and also brings in a touch of glam and AOR rock to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover depressive and real life themes.
In my opinion Lykaion are a very great sounding mixture of gothic metal and sleaze/hard rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "For Love" "I Don't Love You Anymore" "End Of Time" and "Til the End". 8 out of 10.
