Mistress are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a mixture of heavy and speed metal and this is a review of their self released 2011 album "Brains And Bruises".
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the album along with some melodic female vocals and 80's hard rock/,metal solos and leads and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording and after awhile the band starts adding in elements of speed metal while the music is a lot more closer to a pure style of metal.
You can hear some of the early Bitch "Be My Slave" era in the bands musical style while the music is a lot more heavier and more metal than the previous mentioned band and after awhile clean playing along with some acoustic guitars and power ballads is added into certain sections of the recording along with some elements of classic rock while the main focus remains on a hard and heavy musical style as well as adding in elements of thrash metal at times.
Mistress takes a mid 70's to early 80's style of hard rock/metal and brings in some of the heaviness of speed and thrash metal to create their own sound which is very retro and melodic sounding, the production sounds very old school yet professional at the same time while the lyrics cover heavy metal, war, life and hookers.
In my opinion Mistress are a very great sounding mixture of heavy and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Calling the Guards" "Chase To Destruction" "House Of Mirrors" and "The Road Warrior". 8 out of 10.
