Ion Vein are a band from Chicago, Illinois that has been featured before in this zine and plays a progressive form of power metal and this is a review of their self titled album which was released as a joint effort between Mortal Music and MVD Audio.
A very heavy and old school metal sound starts off the album along with some blast beats before adding in some melodic vocals along with some solos and leads a few seconds later and the album also starts to alternate between slow, mid paced and fast parts a s well as the band having a more modern approach to the power metal genre.
You can hear a decent amount of thrash metal influences in the bands musical sound and after awhile clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as the band adding in more progressive metal structures into the music along with a small amount of back up gang shouts, one of the tracks sees the band bringing in a small amount of tribal beats and after awhile a power ballad is added onto the recording while the following tracks sees the band returning back to a heavier direction.
With this album Ion Vein takes the old school styles of progressive and power metal and take them into a more heavier and modern direction while also still having a great amount of melody in their musical sound, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, philosophical and real life themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ion Vein and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fools Parade" "This Is Me" "Alone" and "Twist Of Fate". 8 out of 10.
