Sad Iron where a band from the Netherlands that played a very traditional form of heavy metal and this is a review of their 1983 album "Total Damnation" which was re-issued by Skol Records in the year of 2015.
A very distorted guitar sound starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them which leads up to more of a traditional heavy metal sound along with some melodic vocals and some of the riffing brings in an early speed metal feeling at times as well as being heavily influence by the NWOBHM movement.
When solos and leads are utilized they remain true to a very traditional mid 70's to early 80's metal sound and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and one of the tracks also brings in an evil atmosphere before making a return back to a hard and heavy musical direction.
Some of the tracks are long and epic in length and the songs have a great amount of raw energy that almost brings a punk rock feeling to the bands musical style and the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody at times and as the album progresses clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording. and they also bring in a few live and newer songs onto the re-issue as bonus tracks and the newer songs have more of a modern sound to them while still being in a true metal direction.
Sad Iron played a style of heavy metal that was very heavily influenced by the NWOBHM bands of that era but they had more of a raw and heavier sound than most of those bands back in the days, the production sounds very professional for the era it was recorded while the lyrics cover fantasy, evil, music and rock themes.
In my opinion Sad Iron where a very great sounding traditional heavy metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Demons Night" "We All Praise The Devil" "Three Crown Saws" and "We Play To Kill". 8 out of 10.
