Dying Gorgeous Lies Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

After the release of our new album ”First World Breakdown” we’re about to plan the shows for the rest of the year. We have got some very interesting offers and we’re going to tour in different countries all over Europe. Apart from that, songwriting for the third album has already started.

2.Recently u have released a new album, would u describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

The music we play is a mixture of traditional Thrash Metal and modern influences; we set a high value on melodic riffs combined with aggressive vocals. In my opinion the technical know-how has increased in comparison with our first album. Also the topics of the songs are more direct and more serious.

3.This is the first album to be released in 3 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

After we were signed by Massacre Records in 2013 we spent a lot of time in our rehearsal room and in the studio, writing and recording “First World Breakdown”.
We’ve been touring a lot, presenting our material to the crowd. Last summer, we were official tour support for Arch Enemy on their Germany tour stops of the “War Eternal Europe Tour” and sharing the stage with over bands like Cripper, Freedom Call, Equilibrium and others. And we’ve been shooting the music video to the title track “First World Breakdown”.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Basically the topic of the new album is mankind, destroying itself by its arrogance. The main interest of the self-titled first world is money, power and selfishness at the expense of the weaker ones, that won’t strike back. In detail the songs are about human-caused natural disasters, exploitation, isolation and cruelty and of course some personal experiences.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dying Gorgeous Lies'?

The “dying gorgeous lies” are the beautiful lies, society wants you to believe to keep you calm, small and disinterested. With our name we let these lies die.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Our best shows have been the ones with Arch Enemy in Aschaffenburg (GER) and with Equilibrium in Nuremberg (GER). On both shows there was kind of unique atmosphere and everything was perfect.
Our stage performance is high-intense and powerful; we let the audience become part of the band and of the show.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Currently we are planning to go on tour across Europe this summer. There are gigs planned in 5-6 different countries.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of thrash metal?
We have received great reviews from all over the world; it seems as if “First World Breakdown” works universally, not only for thrash metal fans.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
With “First World Breakdown” we established a very good basis, but the third album, we’re currently working on, will even top it.
This year we will conquer the stages in Europe and in 2016 hopefully in the U.S.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We try to combine the traditional Thrash Metal, with which we all grew up, with modern elements and a new breed of vocal performance. Bands we like are Machine Head, Slipknot, Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch or Volbeat.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Most of us are much into sports, we like to work out at the gym, we support different animal rights associations, but most of our time we spend in our music.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
In the next weeks we will present our new tour dates on facebook (www.facebook.com/dyinggorgeouslies.official) and on our website (www.dying-gorgeous-lies.de), so visit our pages to stay tuned.
