Sudden Flames are a band from Quebec, Canada that plays power metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Under the Sign Of Alliance" which was released by Maple Metal Records.
Music box sounds start off the album before going into a more heavy and melodic direction along with some powerful sounding bass lines and traditional metal style guitar leads which also leads up to some melodic power metal vocals and back up vocals and the music goes for more of an old school power metal sound but with a more modern day sounding production.
In certain sections of the recording when the band adds in faster parts they bring in elements of speed metal as well as a small amount of thrash influences which makes their more melodic approach to metal sound more powerful as well as more epic structures into their songs as well as adding in small amounts of spoken word parts and clean playing to add more diversity into their musical sound.
As the album progresses a small amount of aggressive vocals are brought into the music briefly and they have an almost death metal like feeling to them and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the band also mixes the heaviness of American power metal with the melody and catchy riffing of the German style of this musical genre.
Sudden Flames brings a lot of the best elements of power metal to create an album that would appeal to both old school and modern fans of this musical genre, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fantasy themes.
In my opinion Sudden Flames are a very great sounding power metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pilgrims Of Steel" "Warrior Of Hell" "Freedom" and "Under The Sign Of Alliance". 8/5 out of 10.
