Steel Prophet are a band from Los Angeles, California that has been around for a long time and plays a progressive form of power metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Omniscient" which will be released by Cruz del Sur Music.
Dark sounding synths start off the album before adding in melodic guitar leads and clean singing vocals along with some heavy guitar and bass rhythm's and the music is heavily rooted in the 80's power metal sound as well as bringing in a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts which also have small amounts of speed metal traces to them at times.
As the album progresses progressive rock elements start mixing in with the power metal sound of the bands musical style and you can also hear a small amount of growls being used for a few seconds on one of t he songs which also gives the music a more updated feeling as well as having a production that is more modern than old school sounding.
When we get more into the album you can hear some clean parts and acoustic guitars being mixed into certain sections of the recording as well as the music utilizing more epic structures and adding in a couple of instrumentals along with some hard rock influence being added into the bands musical sound at times and one of the alter tracks also utilizes a small amount of spoken word samples and they also do a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Steel Prophet remain true to an old school power/progressive metal sound while also updating their sound for the modern days, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover political, occult, conspiracy theories, aliens and religion themes.
In my opinion Steel Prophet are a very great sounding progressive/power metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "911" "The Tree Of Knowledge" "Aliens, Spaceships And Richard M. Nixon" and "1984 (George Orwell Is Rolling In His Grave)". 8 out of 10. .
