This is a review of a split album between United Kingdom's Bastard Of the Skies and Grimpen Mire which was released by Future Noise Recordings in the year of 2014 and we will start off the review with bastard of the Skies a band that plays a mixture of sludge metal and noise rock.
A very dark, heavy and doomy sludge metal sound starts off their side of the split along with some aggressive screams that border on noise rock and the band also uses a decent amount of melody and the band also sticks to a slow and heavy direction on the later tacks as well with the music going for a sludge metal sound which also has a great amount of doom metal elements in it as well along with a few long and epic in length tracks, as their side of the split progresses the band start adding in a mixture of both clean and heavy parts.
Bastard Of The Skies plays a style of sludge metal that is mixed with the darkest style of doom metal with a dose of noise rock and the music is all slow and very skull crushing, the production on their side of the split sounds very professional, while the lyrics cover dark and negative themes.
In my opinion Bastard Of The Skies are a very great sounding mixture of sludge metal and noise rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band and their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Yarn" and "Old Vessels".
Next up is Grimpen Mire a band that plays a very heavy, filthy and dark sounding mixture of sludge and doom metal.
There side of the split starts off with a very dark and heavy doom metal sound along with some powerful sounding bass lines before adding in aggressive vocals and screams along with a small amount of melody and there are also brief uses of clean playing while the main focus is almost always on a very slow and heavy sound and the band also brings in 70's style solo and leads at times and the last track is around 10 minutes in length
Grimpen Mire are the darker of the 2 bands with their filthy and dark approach to sludge and doom metal and they also go back to the beginning days of both genres, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover death and despair themes
In my opinion Grimpen Mire are a very great sounding mixture of doom and sludge metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Vermin Hive".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of noise rock, sludge and doom metal. 8 out of 10.
