Powerlord where a band from Oklahoma that played an early mixture of power, speed and thrash metal and this is a review of their 1984 album "The Awakening" which will be released by Shadow Kingdom Records in August of 2014.
Wind sounds start off the album before going into a more heavier thrash/speed metal direction along with some hard rock/metal guitar solos and leads and a few seconds later melodic vocals make their way into t he music and they have the melody as well as the aggression and back up shouts of thrash.
Most of the music goes for a more mid paced or fast direction and the music sounds very different for this style with the guitars being closer to early Slayer and Exodus and the vocals being closer to Exciter and early Overkill and some of the later tracks shows the band adding in some slow yet heavy riffing while the main focus remains on a more fast thrash/speed metal direction and you can also hear some early blast beats being added into the bands musical style at times.
Powerlord sound very underrated for the time they where around with their musical style being a mixture of power, speed and thrash metal and they more heavy approach than most of the bands that where mixing those genres together back then, the production sounds very professional for the time it was recorded and the lyrics cover violent, dark and fantasy themes.
In my opinion Powerlord where a very great sounding mixture of power, speed and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Masters Of Death" "Silent Terror" and "(The Awakening) Powerlord". 8 out of 10.
