English Dogs are a band from England that has been around for more than 30 years and plays a crossover mixture of metal and punk and this is a review of their 2014 album "The Thing With Two Heads" which will b e released by Candlelight Records in July of 2014.
A very heavy and melodic metal sound starts off the album and a few seconds later aggressive hardcore vocals start to kick in and the band also starts mixing punk rock into their metal sound along with some back up shouts and they also bring in the heaviness of thrash metal as well as adding melodic old school metal guitar solos and leads onto the recording.
All of the musical instruments on the album have a very powerful sound to them and at time s the vocals almost have a death metal feeling to them while this band is nowhere close to this genre with their musical sound and the vocals also bring in a mixture of aggressive punk/hardcore vocals and melodic power metal screams and the music also gets more energetic as the album progresses and they also bring in a short Celtic folk song before returning back to a more heavier punk/metal direction on the later tracks and the last song is a 10 minute power ballad that alos uses clean singing vocals along with some soft and clean playing.
English Dogs remain true to their crossover mixture of punk and metal and prove to they can still create a very great sounding album in 2014, the productions sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, fantasy, hateful and everyday themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from English Dogs and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Turn Away From the Light" "Hate Song" "Planet Of The Living Dead" and "Down With The Underdogs". 8 out of 10.
