Alunah are a band from England that plays a mixture of sludge, stoner and doom metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "White Hoarhound" which was released by Napalm Records.
The album starts out with psychedelic sounds and heavy distortion as well as some voices before going into a heavy doom metal direction along with some melodic female vocals and you can hear melody in the music along with stoner rock style solos.
As the album progresses the music gets more heavy, dark and retro sounding and the guitars and bass bring a lot of power into the music as well as a great amount of distortion effects which really bring the 70's feeling that is displayed on the record while the vocals remind me me of early 80's doom metal and the music stays in a slow direction throughout the recording while also showing diversity all at the same time and on the 6th song acoustic guitars and synths are added into the music and the album closes with a hidden psychedelic track.
On this album Alunah take the 80's epic doom metal sound and they update it with modern elements of sludge and stoner rock while also bringing in influences from psychedelic music to create their own sound and they never go into fast or mid paced sections and this album is one of the best doom metal albums that h as came out in years.
Song lyrics cover paganism, occultism and mythology, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as most of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Alunah are a very great sounding mixture of stoner, sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dementer's Grief" "Belial's Fjord" and "Oak Ritual II". 8/5 out of 10.
