Obsolete are a band from Ohio that plays a very dark and progressive form of metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "Riven" which will be released on April 21st.
Melodic vocals and hard and heavy guitars start off the ep and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the music has an old school hard rock/heavy metal feeling bit done with a more modern twist and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
A couple of the tracks is a power ballad and also introduces acoustic guitars to the recording and when solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic sounding and you can also hear elements of classic rock in the bands musical style and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction along with a good mixture of both heavy and clean parts.
Obsolete plays a style of progressive metal that is very modern but also brings in a good amount of old school metal and rock influences to create their own sound, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Obsolete are a very great sounding dark, progressive metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From the Beginning" and "Barren". 8 out of 10.
