Purple Nail are a band from Sweden that plays a gothic form of metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Embrace The Dark" which was released by WormHoleDeath Records.
Dark sounding synths start off the album and a few seconds later spoken word parts find their way onto the recording along with some melodic female vocals and a background choir which brings in more of an operatic and epic feeling and after the intro the music starts going into more of a symphonic and gothic metal direction.
There is a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts throughout the recording along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and on some of the tracks elements of electronic music are mixed in with the bands melodic approach to gothic metal and there is also a good mixture of both power ballads and hard tracks as the recording progresses.
Purple Nail creates a style of gothic metal that is more in an operatic and melodic direction as well as having some elements that would appeal to a more more mainstream audience while still having a very dark sound to them, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and melancholic themes with a touch of dark spirituality.
In my opinion Purple Nail are a very great sounding gothic metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fragments" "Sisters Of Faith" "Embrace the Darkness" and "Between White Sheets". 8 out of 10.
