Mage are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a stoner form of doom metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Last Orders" which was released by Witch Hunter Records.
Melodic clean playing starts off the album along with the music going into a very heavy direction a few seconds later which eventually evolves more into doom metal along with some melodic stoner rock vocals and all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the band also adds in a great amount of melody into the guitar riffing.
At times you can hear some psychedelic sound effects being added into certain sections of the recording and after awhile the band adds in a small amount of deep and demonic vocals in with their heavy doom metal sound as well as adding in guitar solos and leads that combine and old school style of metal with stoner rock.
As the album progresses the band starts adding in elements of thrash and hardcore as well as getting up beat and alternating between stoner and doom metal parts which are more influenced by the 80's epic side of the genre while the production and other influence they mix into their musical sound makes the album have more of an updated feeling.
Mage plays a very heavy, dark and melodic style that is mostly rooted in the doom metal genre but also bring in some sludge, stoner, hardcore and thrash elements to give their musical style a little bit more originality, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Mage are a very great sounding mixture of stoner and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Falled" "Beyond" and "One For The Road". 8 out of 10.
