Sorrows Path Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the
recording and release of the new album?

The band is in the rehearsal room and preparing for the upcoming live shows! We also have some ultra work about promoting the new stuff! Hopefully, our label Iron Shield Records helps very much about that…

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound
that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you
have released in the past?
“Doom Philosophy” is more doom album than anything else we have released! We have used lower tuned guitars and the sound represent us more than the previous album “The Rough Path of Nihilism” which was like a compilation because it contained some songs that were composed in the past…

3.This is the first album to be released in 4 years, can you tell us a little bit
more about what has been going on during that time?
After we had released our previous album we were on the road for a couple of years! The album was soon sold out so we agreed with our previous label for a new album somewhere in 2013. Unfortunately, they didn’t release this back then although we had the stuff recorded, mixed and mastered from April 2013, so we had to search for a new label!

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer
music?
The lyrics are based on the philosophy of death…about the human being that understands its mortal limits and discards any thin desires, like fame, glory and worldly goods. And there we meet with the philosophy of death that guides every human to his salvation. We had already developed the human pain in our two previous works, so the philosophy of death brings the desired salvation.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sorrows Path'?
In our conscience and our minds the name “Sorrows Path” was connected from the beginning with the life of all people. A life that, no matter how it looks, short or long, ugly or beautiful, has a quick ending and from that point only we consider it to be a vain path of sorrow.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also
how would you describe your stage performance?
We can recall our first live after the reunion with the mentors of our youth, Solitude Aeturnus as well as some shows with bands like Rotting Christ and Sanctuary! On stage we feel like animals or children, we are sincere, honest and innocent…

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We have scheduled our release party for the new album at Bat City Club in Athens, Greece on October 4, plus we’ll perform live with Scanner in February 2015, again in Athens. We are also very close to book some shows in other Greek cities in 2014. After our live with Scanner we will also check the possibilities for some European shows!

8.On the new album you had Snowy Shaw and Edgar Rivera do some session work, do you
feel having these 2 legends participate on your recording make the music sound more
powerful?
Of course, this is sure! Not only this, we wanted to have some personalities that highly influenced us to form the band in 1993 and we selected to contact these two great musicians! Just imagine how happy and satisfied we really were after their acceptance when they listened to our last video “Empty Eyes and Blackened Hearts”! Awesome and unforgettable moments!

9.The new album was released on Iron Shield Records, can you tell us a little bit
more about this label?
We were in a search for a new label in the first months of 2014 and after having three propositions from labels abroad, we selected Iron Shield Records, because we believed that this label was the most reliable, they offered us the best deal and this was also a German label! Very important because Germany is a strong country where metal lives….

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the new album by fans of doom
metal?
The first reviews are very encouraging…very positive and even better from the last album’s reviews! Of course, we must wait for a couple of months to be sure about our judge on this….

11.Are any of the band members involved with any other musical projects these days?
Yes, but not something that steals most of their time   Our bassist Stavros Giannakos plays for a cover band and our guitarist Giannis Tziligkakis is also guitarist for Greek doomsters Ominous Sky….

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We truly believe that we have found our own distinct sound so you can wait the same personal sound in the future! We will only try to write better compositions and to improve our musicianship!

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your
newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We try not to have some bands to influence us…we believe this is a trap for the bands and then they sound similar to a particular band! All the members of Sorrows Path listen to doom and heavy metal bands in general a lot, but we also listen to many other kinds of music like ethnic, progressive rock, jazz e.t.c...

14.What are some of your non musical interests?
We have some common interests like all people…working, going out, reading, watching TV, spending time with our families e.t.c. But when the band schedule becomes really heavy we are giving full priority to music…

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thank you very much  Extreme Underground Music! A big thanx also goes to all the friends of the band for the support! Health and harmony to all people and we wish to meet you on the road soon! Doom rules eternally…
