Estado Nova are a band from Finland that plays a 70's orientated form of classic rock/metal and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which will be released in October by Inverse Records.
Folk rock style acoustic guitars start off the album along with some melodic vocals and after a couple of minutes the music starts getting more harder and adds in a 70's proto metal sound as well as utilizing a great amount of melody and you can hear a good amount of Black Sabbath influences in the way the band plays at times.
When solos and leads are added into the music they bring out some of the darkest elements of 70's rock and metal and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and after awhile there is also a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts and on some of the later tracks you can hear a touch of psychedelia as well as a small amount of guitar slides being added into their musical style, towards the end there an acoustic ballad being added onto the recording.
Estado creates a very 70's orientated from of classic rock and metal that also has the heaviness of early doom metal and all of the songs sound like they could of been released more than 40 years while they where recorded in the modern day, the production has a very old school sound to it while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Estado Nova are a very great sounding mixture of classic rock and proto metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dilitane" "The Serpent" "Psychic" and "Twisted Mogul". 8 out of 10.
