Planet Of Zeus are a band from Greece that plays a southern and stoner form of metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Vigilante" which was released by Ihaveadrum Records.
A very heavy southern rock style sound starts off the album which also brings in the heaviness of metal and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and a few seconds later melodic vocals are added into the music which also throw in some aggressive screams at times and the music also starts going more into a stoner metal direction.
When guitar solos and leads are added into the music they bring a more retro rock vibe to the bands musical sound and there are also a good amount of blues influences being mixed in with the bands musical sound which also brings in the heaviness of sludge and doom metal while also having a sound that would of been a perfect fit for radio rock stations in the mid 90's to early 2000's.
As the album progresses there is a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts throughout the recording and the guitars also start to bring in a great amount of melody and some of the later tracks also see a small amount of psychedelic sound effects being mixed in with the bands heavy music sound.
Planet Of Zeus plays a southern style of stoner metal that is not completely original but this Greek band can play this style as good as their American counterparts, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover real life themes.
In my opinion Planet Of Zeus are a very great sounding mixture of southern and stoner metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Great Dandolos" "Burn This City Down" "Vigilante" and "The beast Within". 8 out of 10.
