Skandal are a band from the United Kingdom that plays doom'n'roll and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Year Of The Cicada".
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the ep and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording while synths can also be heard in the background and when vocals are brought into the music they are don in a clean singing 70's rock fashion and the riffs also use a great amount of melody.
Elements of doom metal ca be heard throughout the recording and clean playing along with acoustic guitars can also be heard in some of the songs and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and at times the music brings in a very tribal and shamanistic atmosphere and all of the songs stick to a either a slow or mid paced musical direction while one of the riffs seems to be influenced by black metal and some of the vocals also have a rough edge to them.
Skandal plays a musical style that is heavily rooted in 70's doom metal and hard rock while also mixing it in with a more modern style, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark and real life themes.
In my opinion Skandal are a very great sounding doom'n'roll band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Year Of The Cicada" and "Stillwater Servant". 8 out of 10.
