Black Wizard are a band from British Columbia, Canada that plays a mixture of stoner, doom and heavy metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "New Waste" which was released by Listenable Records.
A very distorted amp sound starts off the album before going into more of a stoner rock direction that also uses a great amount of melody and you can also hear the influence of 70's doom metal in the bands musical style and the solos and leads also bring in a style of classic proto metal.
When vocals are added onto the recording t hey have more of a traditional metal or NWOBHM style to them and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the songs have a very retro vibe to them while also being very modern at the same time and some tracks bring in a small amount of clean playing and acoustic guitars along with some psychedelic and blues rock elements as well as a brief use of organs and a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length.
Black Wizard plays a musical style that takes the 70's styles of heavy and doom metal and mixes it in with a modern stoner rock style to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while t he lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Black Wizard are a very great sounding mixture of stoner, doom and heavy metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Harsh Time" "Eliminator" and "Final Ripper". 8 out of 10.
