Endless Recovery were formed back in 2011 by Michalis Moatsos (Drums) who is the only founding member remaining in the band. Back then the aim of the band was just to play some of their favourite classic heavy metal stuff live but it was shortly after that the band decided to start composing material of their own and that's when the thrash elements kicked in. Since then the band has been through many line-up changes having released a demo/ep (Liar Priest-self released 2012) a full length album (Thrash Rider-Eat Metal Records-Chaos Portal Collective 2013) and a 7'' ep (Resistant Bangers-Witches Brew 2014) and counts many devastating stage appearances with some of the best Greek underground bands as well as opening for Enforcer (Swe) and Deceptor (Uk)
2.Recently you had released a new 7 inch, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from your previous full length and ep?
Well, i guess we would describe the musical sound of the 7 inch as a combination of our musical influences as a band. It combines some heavy/speed moments with raging thrash just like the german masters taught us (haha!). In fact as far as the musical sound is concerned there aren't many differences between the full length and the 7 inch. The only difference is maybe the fact that the songs are faster and a little bit more complex (in a good way though!). Also, in the 7 inch we chose a totally different production and sound than Thrash Rider which sounds more Heavy Metal oriented in terms of sound. Either way we are really satisfied by the musical sound of our latest release cause we achieved exactly what we wanted which is to have a good organic ''raw'' sound and that will be the way the band is gonna work from now on.
3.While your music is rooted in the 80's style of thrash I also heard a touch of first wave black metal and death metal do you feel you are bringing back a lot of aggression this genre has been missing for some time?
Being in a band consisted of 5 members with really varied music taste we try to blend all our influences but always in a thrashy way if you know what i mean. Each member gives his own touch in our music. Yeah we are also influenced from the first wave of black metal and primitive death metal given the fact that we worship bands like Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, early Bathory, Possesed, Sepultura etc. When it comes to thrash we like it fast, aggressive, raw and primitive. Given the fact that nowadays most hyped thrash bands play in the American over-polished style yes you could say that we try to bring some of the aggression that's been missing from thrash metal the past years. Luckily though there are still many bands out there nowadays that do the same....
4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
The most common lyrical subject of the band has to do with social issues as well as political issues and challenges that we have going through nowdays. If you look at the history of a musical genre like Thrash Metal you will find out that it was intended to have caustic lyrics taunting the political and social situations that cause so many problems to the human race. Being a Greek band and taking under consideration the shitty place this country is in we draw inspiration from what we experience and the problems we face in our every day lives. Thrash is not about fun it is supposed to have a message. So i guess this is our message and the way to express our selfs and maybe wake some people up. So looking through our lyrics you will find topics such as how a young person strives to find his place in a rotten society like the one we live in, antiracist messages and an expression of anger towards the corrupted political system. Also other lyrical themes which attract as are certain aspects of life and death such as the afterlife for example and of course the thing we love the most playing our music standing proud for our ideals and not giving a fuck about any kind of trend.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Endless Recovery'?
The name of the band came up after a really funny story. When the band was formed Michalis Moatsos was looking for a name to start playing gigs. He was trying to figure it all out with the guitarist he played with at the time who was really sick for days and that was it. Endless Recovery (haha!). But that's not only it. The name has many interpretations. The word Endless stands for the never ending strive to live in such a corrupted world, standing your ground and never stop playing our music with the same passion when the word Recovery stands for a utopian world where finally the ''Recovery'' is achieved. In that world everyone is unbound and free, standing true in their beliefs.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The band has played many killer shows which are always full of energy, sweat and thrashing vio-lence! Some of our best shows were for sure the one with Deceptor (Uk) (great band and great guys by the way) cause of the line up (some of the finest greek bands played that show as well) and cause it was the show with the biggest attendance. Other notable shows were opening for Swedish Heavy Metal Heroes Enforcer in Larisa, Mind Over Metal festival in Trikala (Xristaras rules!) and of course our gig last January at Zero in Athens. We played at 1 am and there were only like 30 people left but they were raging so hard it was like 30000! About our stage performance we don't think we are the ones who should describe it that's a job for the fans. The only sure thing is that we really enjoy playing live and we always try to do our best when we hit the stage....
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Our next confirmed show is at the 3rd of January at Second Skin club Athens supporting the Greek Death Metal legends Death Courrier along with other Greek Thrash/Death bands which is a huge honour for us and we can't wait for sure. We also have some offers/plans for future gigs outside of Athens/Greece but nothing confirmed yet. As far as touring is concerned of course we would love to tour but being a Greek underground Thrash band makes that really difficult. So, we'll continue composing top notch thrash and playing as many shows we can and who knows what the future will bring???
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of thrash metal?
Well we thinking that on a worldwide level the feedback has been even better than in Greece taken the fact that most of our sales come from outside of Greece. Especially in Europe it seems that people have not forgotten how thrash should sound... We'll like to thank each maniac out there who has supported as by buying our releases from Japan and Russia to the USA and Mexico! Also we would like to thank every label that we've worked with for their trust, and great distribution!
9.Are any of the band members involved with any other musical projects these days?
Yeah! Our guitarist George plays in a N.W.O.B.H.M oriented band called Fyrecross and they are having a demo out pretty soon! Also I am also a part of a Death/Black-Thrash band called Death Trap. Also Michalis Moatsos (drums) and Panayiotis Alikaniotis(bass) have plans for new musical projects so beware!
10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are currently at the early stages of composing material for our next full length album and is it going pretty good. You should expect it probably some time in mid 2015 again with the help of Witches Brew. The musical part is heading into the same direction as the 7 inch. The compositions are better, faster and more violent! You should expect nothing more than a devastating thrash assault with some Canadian speed metal influences....
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Like we said before our musical taste is varied but when it comes to the bands we share the same influences. We worship the speed/thrashmasters of the 80's like Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Violent Force, Razor, early Slayer, Bonded by Blood era Exodus to name a few! Nowadays except the classics luckily there are many good bands out there that keep the spirit alive such as Antichrist, Nekromantheon, Deathhammer, Ranger, Black Trip, Amulet to name some of our favourites. But the list is endless....
12.What are some of your non musical interests?
We are all young fellas with an average age of 20 so when we don't play music or rage hard at gigs we occupy our selves with our studies/works. We also like football and basketball. But i think the lyrics of Violent Force Destructed Youth answer this question...(hahaha)
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
First of all we would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to express some of our thoughts we really appreciate it! We would like to thank everyone who has supported us from day one to now and we would you to know that we growing stronger every day and we will always stay devoted to what we do... You have been warned! CRUSH THOSE WHO DENY THE PRIMITIVE ROOTS
