Gale are a band from Arizona that plays an organic form of sludge/doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Vol. 1".
A very dark, clean yet distorted sound starts off the ep and after a minute the music goes into more of a heavy doom/sludge metal direction along with all of the musical instruments all having a very powerful sound to them as well as a good amount of melody which also leads up to some aggressive shouting vocals being added onto the recording.
You can hear some elements of hardcore and groove metal in the way the vocals are approached and they also bring in small amounts of clean singing at times and the band also uses a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they bring in more melody and darkness to the bands musical style and as the ep progresses their is an instrumental track along with the band adding in some elements of post metal while also still utilizing vocals on the later tracks and towards the enf the music starts to speed up and on the last rack you can hear a slight black metal influence.
Gale creates a style of sludge and doom metal that is still very heavy yet melodic at the same time and they also add in a post feeling to make their music stand out on their own, the production sound s very heavy and dark for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover existentialism, darkness and self analysis themes.
In my opinion Gale are a very great sounding sludge/doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To Build A Fire" and "Burn your Prison". 8 out of 10.
