Edvian are a band from Russia that plays a very progressive form of metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "2012" which was released by Metal Scrap Records.
The album starts out with Gregorian chanting along with songs and ethnic style acoustic guitars which leads up to a heavier sound which leads to melodic vocals and some aggressive screams along with soem fast parts and blast beats which are rarely utilized in this genre of metal and all of the musical instruments have a very heavy sound to them.
As the album continues the band continue their heavy and modern approach to progressive metal as well as bringing in elements of electronic music with the synths and after awhile the guitar leads bring in a great amount of melody and 80's influences and on one of the songs they bring in a power ballad that utilizes acoustic guitars and on the last song there are elements of dub step.
While the main focus is progressive metal on this recording Edvian have a more modern and different approach to this genre with their music being a lot more heavier as well as using a small amount of blast beats while also keeping around the melody that this genre is known for.
Song lyrics cover philosophical and everyday themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Edvian are a very great sounding heavy and modern progressive metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Progress of Death" "Cradle of Life" and "Crazy World". 8 out of 10.
