Mindkult are a band from Virginia that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of stoner, doom metal and shoegaze and this is a review of their 2017 album "Lucifer's Dream" which will be released in September by Transcending Obscurity Records.
Powerful sounding bass guitars and drum beats start off the album along with some heavy doom metal riffing and distorted yet melodic guitar leads a few seconds later which also adds in elements of 70's and stoner rock along with a touch of blues and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly done in a clean singing 70's proto metal style and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and while the music is very retro the shoegaze elements gives the songs a more modern feeling and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction and horror movie samples a re also utilized briefly.
Mindkult creates another recording that remains true to the stoner, doom metal and shoegaze mixture of previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mindkult and if you are a fan of occult rock, stoner, doom metal and shoegaze, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nightmares" and "Lucifer's Dream". 8 out of 10.
