Sator are a band from Italy that plays a mixture of psychedelic, post hardcore, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their self titled 2015 album which was released by Taxi Driver Records.
A distorted sounding drone starts off the album before adding into more of a heavy sludge/doom metal sound where you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the vocals are mostly aggressive hardcore style screams and the riffs also bring in retro sounding melodies at times.
All of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when solos and leads are utilized they are done in a melodic post metal style and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and when solos and leads are utilized they bring in a 70's influenced style of stoner rock and later tracks also bring in a small amount of clean playing and the whole album also sticks to a very slow musical direction.
Sator plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in sludge and doom metal while also adding in a touch of stoner and post hardcore to create a style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Sator are a very great sounding mixture of post hardcore, stoner, sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pneumonia" and "Erased". 8 out of 10.
