Black Magic Fools are a band from Sweden that plays a very melodic and medieval form of folk metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Soul Collector".
Tribal beats along with some bagpipes start off the album and after the intro they start mixing melodic metal and folk music together as well as adding in vocals that are mostly spoken and angry and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the solos and leads bring in more of an old school meta l style.
After awhile jewharp's, flutes, fiddles and violins make their presence known on the recording which also gives the music more of a medieval feeling while the metal elements make the music sound more modern and clean playing can be heard on some of the tracks while the vocals after awhile get more melodic and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Black Magic Fools plays a musical style that takes a very melodic yet extreme style of metal and mixes it in with medieval folk music to create a musical style of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics are a concept album based upon a musician who gets his instrument destroyed by priests and he makes an allegiance with t he devil to get his instrument back as well as collecting souls and spreading misery across the world.
In my opinion Black Magic Fools are a very great sounding melodic, medieval folk metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Grave Dancer" "Black Jig" "Soul Collector" and "Not My Truth". 8 out of 10.
