He Whose Ox Is Gored are a band from Seattle, Washington that plays a progressive mixture of sludge metal, doomgaze, psychedelia and post hardcore and this is a review of their 2015 album "The Camel, the Lion, And The Child" which was released by Bleeding Light Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album along with some melodic guitar riffing a few seconds later as well as some drums which leads up to a harder direction where you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and you can also hear a great amount of progressive elements in the bands musical sound.
When vocals are added into the music they are very aggressive while also having a melodic tone to them and the riffs also bring in the heaviness of sludge and doom metal while also mixing in with the atmospheric side as well and the solos and leads are done in more of a melodic post rock style and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length while some songs mix in grunge and psychedelic elements and the whole album also sticks to a very slow musical direction and there is also a brief use of female vocals.
He Whose Ox Is Gored plays a musical style that takes the heaviness of sludge, t he raw energy of grunge and mixes it in with the melody of post hardcore while also mixing in some shoegaze, psychedelic and progressive rock to create a very original recording, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion He Whose Ox Is Gored are a very great sounding progressive mixture of sludge metal, doomgaze, psychedelia and post hardcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Omega" "Alpha" and "Cairo".
