Sideburn are a band from France that plays thrash with elements of punk, metalcore and doom metal which they call cocktailcore and this is a review of their 2014 ep "The Wrath Of Mrs Slaughter" which will be released on September 30th by VDH.
A very dark and distorted sound starts off the ep along with some post metal style guitar riffing and after a couple of minutes the music starts to get more heavy and melodic sounding along with some aggressive style hardcore vocals and screams and on the following track the music starts incorporating more thrash elements.
When slower riffs are utilized you can hear the doom metal elements start to kick in and the band also uses a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some solos and leads that utilize some exotic sounding scales and the bass guitars also have a very dominant sound on the recording and on one of the later tracks the band brings in a brief use of clean playing before making a return back to a heavier musical direction as well as addign in a small amount of death metal to the vocals.
Sideburn combines a variety of styles from thrash, doom, post metal, metalcore and punk to create their own sound on this recording, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Sideburn are a very great sounding mixture of thrash, doom metal and metalcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Emptiness" and "Run And Die". 8 out of 10.
