Towers are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of sludge, doom, industrial, psychedelia, new wave and no wave and this is a review of their 2014 album "II" which was released by Eolian Empire.
The album s tarts out with dark ambient drone sounds along with drums a few seconds later which also leads up to dark sounding guitars and after awhile the music goes into a heavier direction along with noise rock style vocals which also use clean singing at times and a few minutes later the recording goes into a more psychedelic direction.
As the album continues the music gets a lot more darker and experimental sounding and the bass guitars also take over as a lead instrument and for the most part the band always sticks to a slow yet heavy direction throughout the recording yet they speed up a bit on the last track and on one of the songs they bring in melodic chanting.
Towers bring a lot of original elements to their music with the heavier sound being influenced by doom metal, sludge and noise rock and when they get experimental they bring in psych, drone, new wave, no wave and industrial sounds and they belong in a category of their own.
Song lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy, dark and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on t his recording along with a couple of songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Towers are a very great sounding mixture of noise rock, drone, doom metal, sludge, psych, industrial, new and no wave and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hell" and "In The Room Of Misfortune". 8/5 out of 10.
