44 Mag are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a very old school form of thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 album "Outlaw Psychosis".
The album begins with a slow to mid paced old school metal sound before adding in melodic yet aggressive vocals and the music starts going into a more thrash direction and after a couple of minutes hard rock style solos are added into the music along with spoken word samples.
As the album progresses the music goes for the melodic side of thrash along with some NWOBHM elements and the vocals use more clean singing while there are still some aggressive elements which brings a hardcore punk feeling to the record and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and retro.
While there is nothing original or modern on this record 44 Mag still create some very great sounding 84-84 era style thrash metal and also bring in a good amount of melody along with a hard rock edge and this album is 100 percent retro metal.
Song lyrics cover drinking, partying, everyday and rock'n'roll themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and old school sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion 44 Mag are a very great sounding old school thrash metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Brain Douche" "Heroes of the New Aeon" "Leviathan Smiled" and "DUI". 8 out of 10.
