Serpent Crown are a band from San Francisco, California that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of sludge and thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Incantations Of Violence" which will be released in September.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album along with some elements of sludge and doom metal and after awhile the music speeds up bringing in more of a thrash style along with some aggressive female vocals and the music bring s in a lot of influences form both t he 80's and 80's days of extreme metal.
While the music has its old school roots it still sounds very modern and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads also expanding on the classic thrash style and you can also hear a decent amount of melody in the bands musical style and all of the musical instruments also sound very powerful and the last track b rings in a brief use of blast beats.
Serpent Crown creates another recording that takes an old school style of thrash and mixes it in with the heaviness of sludge to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover darkness, witchcraft and occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Serpent Crown and if you are a fan of sludge, doom and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vengeance Of The Witch" and "Wings Of Retribution". 8 out of 10.
