This is a review of a split album between Tennessee's Black Tar Prophet and Pennsylvania's Iron Gavel which will be released in September by Broken Limbs and we will start off the review with Black Tar prophet a band that plays an instrumental mixture of sludge and doom metal.
Their side of the split starts out with amp noises and spoken word samples as well as some experimental elements which leads up to a more heavy sludge and doom metal direction and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their side of the recording and all of their tracks remain true to a very slow yet heavy musical direction while the drums do speed upi briefly, the production sounds very professional while the spoken word samples focus more on negative themes.
In my opinion Black Tar Prophet are a very great sounding instrumental mixture of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Malignant" and Sociopathic Society".
Next up is Iron Gavel a band that plays a very heavy form of noise rock.
There side of the split starts off with experimental style drum beats along with some clean guitars a few seconds later which also leads up to a heavier musical direction which is more rooted in the noise rock direction and after awhile melodic yet distorted guitar leads can be heard at times and all of their music is instrumental and sticks to a very slow musical direction and there is also a brief use of power electronics and most of their tracks are very long and epic in length and the production sounds very professional.
In my opinion Iron Gavel are a very great sounding instrumental noise rock band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Teeth/Thorn".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of noise rock, sludge and doom metal.
