Mountaineer are a band from Oakland, California that plays a mixture of sludge, shoegaze, and post rock and this is a review of their 2016 7 inch "Coma Fever/Siren Song" which was released by Battleground Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sludge metal sound starts off the 7 inch along with some clean singing vocals that are in more of a post rock direction and the music also brings in a great amount of dream pop and shoegaze elements and you can also hear all of the musical instruments on the recording.
When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and both of the tracks remain true to a very slow yet melodic musical direction.
Mountaineer creates a musical style that takes sludge and doom metal and mixes it with shoegaze, dream pop and post rock to create something very original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Mountaineer are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, doom metal, shoegaze, dream pop and post rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Siren Song". 8 out of 10.
